Exercise for Awareness and Forgiveness

List those with whom you are holding a grievance. Leave a few lines of space between each name. Go back and list the attributes which you have believed you are angry about, then write how those relate to aspects of yourself. For example, if you hold a grievance against someone you see as controlling and insensitive tune in to how this may relate to your control issues. Then, in your mind, forgive that person and thank them for helping you become more aware of your own attributes that keep you from peace. Nobody enters our life without a lesson that helps us become more clear about who we are. The people that seem to anger us are those with the greatest lessons, for as we become enlightened we no longer feel a need to be angry.

While compiling your list of traits which you judge, note with marks when any given trait is repeated. When finished, create a list of contrasting positive traits. For example, if you listed angry, on this new list write down at peace or something of that nature. This new list represents the traits you would like to have. On your new list, note the contrasting traits that stem from repeated judged traits. Traits repeated are particularly important on your path to being your true self. Thank the people in your life for being there for you to project upon and thus become more conscious.
